Day 1 | Arrival in Tuxtla and Transfer to San Cristóbal de las Casas
Arrive in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and begin your adventure in Chiapas! Upon arrival, a private transfer will take you to the charming town of San Cristóbal de las Casas, nestled in the mountains. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive as you make your way to this vibrant colonial town.
Day 2 | Visit 2 villages in Los Altos de Chiapas
Enjoy a 5-hour experience visiting two indigenous villages in the highlands of Chiapas, San Juan Chamula and San Lorenzo Zinacantán. Your first stop will be San Juan Chamula, a Tzotzil community of pre-Hispanic origin, where you will take a walking tour through its streets, experiencing an atmosphere of religious and cultural syncretism. You will visit the Church of San Juan Evangelista, which has an austere interior but is full of symbolism.
Day 3 | Sumidero Canyon
Today, you will take a tour of approximately five hours accompanied by your local guide and other travelers to see Tuxtla Gutiérrez sights through the descent towards Cahuaré Dock. Immediately, you will board a motorboat that will lead you to the Sumidero Canyon, a natural formation with walls reaching as high as 800 m; its walls formation occurred about 136 million years ago. You will see waterfalls, caves made by nature throughout the years, and representative flora and fauna of this place. In a vehicle, you will travel to the Sumidero Canyon viewpoints, a chance to know this place from the heights. If available, you will visit five different viewpoints and stop at them. Appreciate your surroundings from different perspectives and surprise yourself with what this place's natural landscapes and wild sounds can offer.
Day 4 | El chiflón and Montebello’s lake tour
Today, you will live a unique experience of approximately nine hours accompanied by your local guide and a group of travelers. You will begin the two hour and thirty minute tour to reach the Chiflón ecotourism center, a place managed by families from the neighboring ejido who have worked for nearly 25 years to maintain it and make its attractions known. There you will be able to walk quietly for 2 hours along a trail surrounded by the most spectacular nature of the region, with a turquoise blue river and a series of impressive waterfalls, including the Velo de Novia waterfall, the second largest in Mexico. During the hike, you will see a great variety of birds, butterflies and, if you are lucky, some reptiles. Afterwards, the tour will take you to the Montebello Lakes for a ninety minute drive where you will take a break for lunch. Montebello is a national park of great ecological importance due to its more than 157 species of orchids and 93 species of fungi, besides being a high conservation area for birds. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit the most emblematic lakes, each with a unique shade of turquoise blue, and explore the orchid island on a traditional raft. You will also be able to take pictures, enjoy traditional handicrafts and food and, if time permits, visit the international lake, which divides Mexico and Guatemala.
Day 5 | The beautiful waterfalls of Misol-ha & Agua Azul
You'll visit the stunning blue waters of the aptly-named Agua Azul waterfalls: a series of bright turquoise falls that contrast spectacularly with the surrounding green vegetation. From there, continue to another waterfall: the Misol-Ha Waterfall, which plunges 115 ft (35 m) into the pool below. Soak your feet, take some photos, and breathe in the fresh rainforest air.
Day 6 | Discover the Palenque Archeological Site
Explore the lesser-known archaeological area of Palenque, where you can see how quickly the jungle can reabsorb an entire city. Once a center of civilization until the 7th century, the now-abandoned city was overtaken by the forest until its rediscovery and subsequent excavations. Since then, the site has been recognized for its historical value and UNESCO designation.
Day 7 | Visit the Roberto Barrios Waterfalls
Head an hour outside the town of Palenque for a relaxing adventure at the Roberto Barrios Waterfalls. The falls are famed for their beautiful turquoise waters, which cast a refreshing spray into the surrounding air (perfect for cooling off!).
Day 8 | Free day in Palenque
Enjoy a free day in Palenque, where you'll have the opportunity to stroll through its beautiful streets and immerse yourself in the local culture.
Day 9 | Goodbye Chiapas
Transfer from Palenque to Villahermosa Airport.
