Today you will visit the dormant volcano of Citlaltépetl or better known as Pico de Orizaba, popular for being the highest mountain in Mexico and the only volcano with frozen lava inside. You will hike through the mountain range towards the 4,200 m high Pico de Orizaba and enjoy spectacular views, landscapes surrounded by oaks and pines, indigenous communities, typical villages and abandoned haciendas.

The tour goes along the south face of Pico de Orizaba where you will get to know the route to the Gran Telescopio Milimétrico passing through the “high foothills” forest to enter the high mountain tundra.

To avoid “mountain sickness” acclimatization stops are made along the way.

With Rutopia you can go hiking in Pico de Orizaba! Request your trip now and we will design a unique a smooth trip for you and your family.
