Waterfalls are generated thanks to the unevenness of rivers and soils. The different heights cause the water to fall and become one of nature’s most beautiful spectacles. Although we have many waterfalls in Mexico, Chiapas has some of the most beautiful in the whole country. An example of this is El Chiflón, a chain of waterfalls that form in the bed of the San Vicente River in the municipality of Tzimol.
In total, five waterfalls descend in the middle of a hill. Their names are El Suspiro (The Sigh), Ala de Ángel (Angel’s wing), Arcoíris (Rainbow), and Quinceañera. The highest is Velo de Novia (Bride’s Veil), one hundred and twenty meters high. It receives this name because its current forms a white layer on the rocks.
But these are no ordinary waterfalls. What makes them unique is that when the air passes through their waters, the waterfalls whistle. A song that visitors can hear perfectly throughout the entire place. El Chiflón waterfalls are a complete sensory experience for those looking to connect with nature.
As the water reaches the ground, small pools are formed. These are ideal for spending the day swimming and relaxing. No other type of spa can compete with the intense turquoise blue of its waters. In addition, travelers are surrounded by vegetation and sounds of nature that will help them rest from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The landscape accompanying these natural pools stands out for its reed and palm groves. Visitors can also find a variety of orchids, cedars, mahogany, and fruit trees. The fauna that lives there are rabbits, armadillos, iguanas, snakes, and birds that join the water’s symphony.
The Chiflón waterfall chain has been an ecotourism center for ten years. They offer two lodging options. If visitors go with their family, the most comfortable option is to rent a cabin. But for the adventurous souls, there is also an area where one can camp.
The main activity of this center is the tour of the waterfalls. The ascending route is a little more than a kilometer long. A path of almost a thousand stone steps guides us to the highest point of the Chiflón waterfalls, Velo de Novia.
Another activity that allows connecting with nature is animal watching. There are also viewpoints to enjoy the entire landscape. But we saved the best for last. There is a zip line that has two stations. The first zip line is across the river where the waterfalls are born. While the second goes across the front of the highest waterfall.
The Chiflón waterfalls are a natural paradise like no other. When traveling to Chiapas, one should at least spend a day here. This recreational center is far from any ordinary tourist destination. This guarantees a time of tranquility and relaxation to have fun while connecting with nature.
